FIRST LEGO League: More Than Robots

Devil Robotics has proudly hosted the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Hobart Regional each year since 2019, with teams from more than 30 schools and organisations across Tasmania participating over that time.

The Hobart Regional feeds into the National Championship South, where teams compete against others from across Tasmania, Victoria, and South Australia.

FIRST LEGO League is a global STEM competition for students aged 9–16, where teams of two to ten design, build, and program LEGO robots to complete missions on a themed playing field, and develop innovation solutions to real-world problems.

Each year, FIRST LEGO League releases a new Challenge based on a scientific topic, inspiring students to think critically, solve problems, and have fun while learning.

There are four parts to the FIRST LEGO League Challenge.

Each part contributes equally to the team’s overall performance.

To be successful, teams need to balance their effort across all four parts.

Teams are required to:

  • program an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game),
  • develop a solution to a problem they have identified (Innovation Project),
  • demonstrate FIRST Core Values: discovery, innovation, impact, teamwork, inclusion, and fun.
