The Devil Robotics senior team travelled to Adelaide to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Australia Qualifier, from Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November 2024. As the only team from outside South Australia, our students proudly represented Tasmania while competing alongside 11 other teams in this regional event. The top-ranked teams from this event earned a place at the Australia Championship, the next stage in the international competition.

FIRST Tech Challenge is an international robotics competition for students aged 12–18. Teams are challenged to design, build, and program a robot to compete in an alliance format—but FTC is about much more than just robots. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, teams develop hands-on STEM skills, apply engineering principles, and discover the value of innovation, perseverance, and collaboration. Teams are also recognised for excellence in areas such as branding, fundraising, and community outreach.
At the South Australia Qualifier, the Devil Robotics team impressed with their calm focus, strong teamwork, and positive attitude—earning the respect of fellow teams and event organisers. Their thoughtfully engineered robot was recognised with the Jeff Rabone Award for simple, elegant, and reliable engineering.
