What is the FIRST Robotics Competition?
The FIRST® Robotics Competition is an international robotics competition for 14- to 18-year olds.
Each year in January, a new FRC game is announced. Teams have six weeks to brainstorm, design, prototype, build, program and learn to drive their robot. The robots are up to 2 metres tall and weigh as much as 50 kgs.
FIRST® Robotics Competition teams are guided by solid principles of teamwork, cooperation, camaraderie and gracious professionalism. The game is always as safe as can be ensured, and students are encouraged to be as friendly with other teams as they are with their own.
Why join FRC?
It’s an experience you won’t gain through school. If you’re thinking about going to university or a summer school then saying you’re part of an FRC team helps. This program involves a lot of effort and time over your holidays but it’s worth it.
If you’re not that interested in building or programming but still want to be in this group, we are also looking for students to contribute to social media or help with funding. Maybe you’re interested in graphic design or helping to run the team. There are awards and jobs for those interested in these areas.
